Class 6, Assignment 9

Class 6, Assignment 9

The subject matter was fascinating and the idea that the self has changed over time is truly something to think about. For years someones "self" was distinguished by their job, birth, title, but we have seen that over time the idea has changed, adapted if you will. I truly thought the idea of who we are, or who we perceive ourselves to be to be fascinating. The fact that the technology around me affects who I am is something I never thought of but once it is brought to your attention you realize how much it really does.
There were some areas that I found to be remarkable, as far as what the future will bring us. Virtual Worlds did not shock me as most of us can see the world and how everything is becoming a more virtual experience. What did trouble me however was the idea that a human could become code. That we as a people would become no more than a string of numbers and letters strung together to map who we are. This of course brings the idea of cloning oneself and while that may be a reality one day, accepting it now is very difficult.

Class 6, Assignment 8

Class 6, Assignment 8

Entering into JIed Early Access

Connecting to the main page and then investigating the Horizons bar...

The human body looks very interesting...

Fish Tank... :(

Rubix cube... :(

Water Simulator... :(

Jellyfish...:( Now we transition to PlayCanvas...

The first game I tried was Swoop where the user holds the left mouse button down to rise the plane and lets in go to nose dive...

The point is to get the coins and stars... very well done.

Zombie PacMan!!! A hit with all the kiddies i'm sure.

Fun, but a little clunky with the controls... i.e. I died.

One more chance... here we go.

This i StarLord and it is less a game and more a simulation...

All you can do is change the background but I commend the artist on the detail of the helmet...

Pricing... I'll take the free one thank you.

My celebrity picture will be... Bill Murray

Using the designated picture for the eyes... copying the circle and pasting it to the next layer...

Eyes for my man Bill... adding some text

Another quick edit...

Adding some bigger text...

And some final smaller text within the dimensions of the bigger text.

Export as JPG and PNG...

and we have a .jpg

and a .png

This is an edited portrait of a famous person, in this case Bill Murray. I then took a symbol and edited into where is eyes are located. Personally it reminds me of some John Lennon glasses but that is neither here nor there. This is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

Deciding on a picture to use... this one should do

Getting in depth, maximizing the few and making edits...

I asked my wife if she could see the difference...

Before

And she said I looked younger... its shocking the affect of photoshop but also makes me wonder the detriment it really has on our psyche as human beings? This can't be healthy...

After

This is an example of the power of photoshop, above are two pictures; both the same but one unaltered and the other photoshopped. By simply using the smudge and blur tools in Gimp I was able to make myself look years young while smoothing out all imperfections.
